Perhaps Soon You Can Own A Canadian, After All

Sometimes I like to ask Google the profound questions in life, like “why”? And Google will try to predictively suss out where I’m going with my inquiry. Sometimes, mixed in with the inane, and the racist, you’ll find a total gem, like “Why can’t I own a Canadian?”

I mean, I can think of a few reasons why I can’t (legality notwithstanding…)

First, Canadian duck dollars are ever so very close to on par with the lollerdollar right now, so it’s not really the time to buy. Second, I don’t have a good source of poutine in the States, so I’d have to serve them gravy over cottage cheese and they’d be unhappy.

However, owning your very own Canadian might not be out of reach in the future, as Mish Shedlock points out in his recent post of the Canadian credit bubble in pictures. The highlights:

  • Credit Card Debt Up $43 Billion Since 1999
  • Personal Lines of Credit Up $180 Billion Since 1999
  • Mortgage Debt Up $566 Billion Since 1999
  • Household Credit Up $715 Billion Since 1999

Add to this their uncontrollable spending at Tim Hortons and general reticence to own firearms and the dream of owning a Canadian might not be out of reach when their credit bubble bursts. Look out, overextended neighbors to the North!

i would liken mish’s comments to this situation: when you get up to the mouth in your own poop, you start mocking others that they have some on their pants too.

I just typed in “Where” and also got some funny results. Chuck Norris is driving his Nissan GT-R, that’s where he is.

This coming from a place where Canadians are buying up your cheap real estate in droves?

Haven’t you heard? Canada is buying up New Mexico, Arizona and Florida and we will annex it to Canada for our own retirement homes as we watch your economy go down in flames…. Cheers.

  • Alyx

You guys should try annexing contiguous territory, as you’d find it easier to defend. Perhaps we can interest you in Detroit?

  • Canadian from Alberta

The truth is, Canada is also deeply in debt and not in a position to mock anyone. As far as Canadians buying property in Arizona, etc, why not? We’re good neighbors and we’re bringing cash. Lots of Americans invest in Canada too. F’rinstance, our bonds are selling like hotcakes. All the best to our American neighbors.

I laugh at the guy above/below stating that CANADIANS are buying Arizona, Fla etc. They are so stupid, AZ is just about out of water within a few years. Florida will have the worst HURRICANE season ever and taxes will be so high that only a DUMB CANADIAN would be willing to pay for any of this. ILLEGAL immigrants flooding the US will be the best neighbOUR for these northern SUCKERS.

I just realized this post got a ton of traffic off a Canadian blog, so for the new folks, understand that we like to roast people around here.

p.s. – I still think the gov of the Bank of Canada is kind of hot.

  • alberta, please secede

well, the gov is aptly named
‘step right up, everyone’s a winna.’
as can be seen in a certain previous post,
the kool-aid he pushes is potent stuff
