I wasn’t planning to cover the North American International Auto Show this year, because really, you don’t need us to tell you that there will be a lot of prattling about hybrids and batteries and the like. But then we read that the hecklers were out in full force to greet Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, and though he avoided taking a pizza to the face, he did take some criticism:
As Marchionne discussed plans to close a Fiat plant in Sicily, a protester shouted in Italian, “Shame on you! Stop killing Italian jobs,” according to the Detroit News.
The Detroit Free Press identified the protester as Matteo Colombi, a Teamsters member who handed out fliers reading “The Fiat/Chrysler Bailout Bandit. Tell Chrysler: Stop Killing Good Jobs” and referred people to carbuyersbeware.com.
When you call someone a bandit, you have our attention! Unfortunately, I checked out the site referenced above and I didn’t see any picture of Marchionne in a bandit mask. Matteo, if you’re interested, send me an email – we can hook you up with that.
Later on, someone even made it personal:
Near the end of Marchionne’s speech, a woman rushed the stage and said “My mother died because of a defective Chrysler product.”
Jobs, mothers… CHRYSLER IS ON A MURDEROUS RAMPAGE WHICH MUST BE STOPPED. And we’re not sure what defective product allegedly took out this woman’s mama, but I’m sure the narrator from Fight Club would tell you it is a major one.
Additionally, Car and Driver has taken the man to task for his fashion, because Italy is a country where even the Pope wears Prada shoes, and this dude wanders around in a blue sweater and black pants every day (C/D’s parent company owns Elle, so maybe that is why they care). They’ve produced a Marchionne paper doll, which could probably be a stand-in for some voodoo action if any of these protesters are really pissed, though Pat Robertson would probably advise strongly against this.

Again, no bandit mask included.
