What’s A Sucker And Has A New Job?

At last, our long national nightmare is over: Bank of America has named its next ex-CEO.

After a two-and-a-half-month search that seemed to stretch across the nation’s banking industry, Bank of America late Wednesday named Mr. Moynihan, the head of its consumer banking business, to succeed its beleaguered leader, Kenneth D. Lewis.

Since Lewis announced his not-firing, Moynihan has spent every waking moment denying that he had any interest in the job. So of course he was the natural choice.

The search took somewhere around twenty-three years, and involved literally every single person in the world turning it down at least once. Alyx and I both said no, although my feelings were somewhat hurt when I learned my qualification was not anything I’ve done here, but rather that I have a savings account somewhere.

Anyway, Godspeed, Brian Moynihan. And make sure you groom a successor, because chances are, you’re going to need one. Soon.
