Grand Damn

A far more tasteful breakout of what “PONTIAC” stands for than I heard as a youth, let me tell you.  Suffice to say I never believed that anyone actually thought it was a Cadillac.

So!  If you have anything meaningful to say to Pontiac, I suggest you do it soon because the brand is getting the BOOT by the end of next year at the very latest, because let’s be honest, Pontiac peaked with Smokey and the Bandit II. Since then it’s been relegated to “upgrade” rental car status or “first car” for teenagers of the middle class.

So that’s two down, at least three more to go.  Having unloaded Saab already, and looking to dump Hummer (sure, they say “sell” but who is going to buy that brand now after we have seen $4 a gallon gas?) and Saturn, and maybe Opel, GM’s letterhead is about to get a whole lot less cluttered.

My Pontiac Vibe is teh awesome. That may be because it’s literally half-Toyota, but has better styling than the Toyota Matrix.

Which, really, is kind of the problem with Pontiac. With a handful of exceptions, most of the models released under that brand are just restyled and repriced knockoffs of other models. The entire moniker is pointless.

I agree with Mark. My ex had a Vibe and it was ridiculously awesome… kept us and 4 of our friends alive (minus one skull fracture) when a tank (80s Buick Roadmaster) ran a red light and t-boned us. Got great mileage, looked nice, stock stereo was win… it may be a knockoff, but it’s a damn fine knockoff, and I’m sure that counts for something.
