While you’re reading this post, I will be in Las Vegas, arguably the physical gambling capital of the free world. Meanwhile, the United States is about to get spanked by the EU for its intolerance to internet gambling (insert Anurag Dikshit joke here). SAI reports that Barney Frank is about to take up the cause of ‘net gamers yet again:
On Thursday, Reuters reported the EU could file a complaint about U.S. enforcement of the gambling ban at the World Trade Organization… “[Barney] Frank will bring back legislation to repeal the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act),” the spokesman said, referring to a Republican-crafted bill passed in 2006 when the party controlled Congress and the White House.
Good news if you like to gamble, but bad news if you’re Atlantic City or Las Vegas, because it gives gamblers one less reason to make the trip.
