I read some extra-Christmas-cheery news in the NY Post today. Apparently, the unemployment numbers under-report the situation:

I am shocked. SHOCKED, I say!
Of course, these numbers must also always be taken with the reminder that this only counts those people actually receiving unemployment benefits. Those who do not file, or whose benefits have run out, will not be included in the total – meaning well more than 6.7% of the workforce is being forced to not work.
