Funny article in the IHT yesterday, related to British soccer (ok… football) team Manchester United’s sponsorship by AIG. The status of the sponsorship is currently unknown:
Whether Washington’s foray into soccer would continue for the long term was not immediately clear. In the context of the Federal Reserve’s $85 billion rescue of AIG, the £56.5 million, or about $100 million, that AIG is spending to support Manchester United over four years is pocket change. At some point, though, AIG’s marketing department – if not Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve – may have to take another look.
Everyone wants to advertise your brand, of course, but the front of a jersey is an expensive place to be. However, maybe the Federal Reserve could use a little good publicity. This alternate logo suggestion created by Scott Ogawa found its way into my mailbox via my friend Rob:

You know, now that I think about it, having the Federal Reserve team be in the red is pretty darned apropos.

As a far-away (USA) Man Utd fan, I enjoy reading blogs like this.
Maybe one day I can make it to the UK to attend a soccer game.
